Course Description:

This course could be divided into two parts: Crystallography and Mineralogy.
Crystallography is the study of crystals and crystal features (crystal structure, symmetry, and shape).
Mineralogy is is the core discipline of subject of earth and planetary sciences specializing in the scientific study of
chemistry, crystal structure, and physical (including optical) properties of minerals.

This course is aimed:
(1) to provide the student with an up-to-date understanding of basic concepts and principles in crystallography,
crystal chemistry, chemistry, physical aspects of minerals, and introductory petrology concepts essential to the
understanding of the genesis of minerals and rocks; and (2) to provide a reference for quick and unambiguous
identification of the common minerals in the field and in the laboratory.

Grading:

Final Score = (Attendance + Coursework assignment+ quiz) * 30% + Final Exam * 70%
The final exam will be a closed-book one.
